Hockey Wales are very pleased to announce that Gareth Kear has been appointed as Director of Commercial. This new role is key for Hockey Wales as we prepare for internationals against South Africa in Cardiff this July, the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in August, and our first ever Men’s World Cup in January 2023 in India.
Gareth will be responsible for all sponsorship, funding, and membership income strategy and generation. He has a long history of involvement in both sport and business in Wales and has enjoyed commercial success with several international corporate companies. More recently he was CEO for Wales Rugby League, securing six figure additional grant funding and sponsorship during the three years of his tenure.
He makes no secret of his love for sport and Wales. As a senior coach he has coached club and international Rugby Union teams. He has a particular passion for promoting women’s and disability sport and started the first ever women’s pathway at Wales Rugby League in 2019.
He is a proud grandfather of three and both his sons are rugby players - his oldest is a professional Rugby League player and captain of the national team.
Gareth said "It is an honour to work with an Olympic and Commonwealth sport and I look forward to working with CEO Ria and her amazing team."
"Hockey Wales are leaders for equality and inclusion in sport and are committed to a green strategy and net zero emissions by 2030. It’s great to work for a value lead organisation that’s making a difference to society on and off the pitch."
