Championship Regulations

School Girls Championship Regulations 2021/2022 

The organisation of the various championships shall be undertaken on behalf of the Hockey Wales Competitions TAG by the hosting region


Hockey Wales shall oversee each event

Entry
The U14, U16 and U18 Championships shall be open to all schools for whom details have been registered with Hockey Wales

Conditions of Entry


⦁    All players must attend the participating school / college – the exception to this rule is that if a player has transferred to another school / college that is NOT participating in that particular age group, then she will be allowed to play for her previous school / college provided the HW Schools Competitions Coordinator is informed in advance


⦁    A school may only enter one team at each age group


Age Restrictions:


U14 – All players must be in school year 9 and below in the year of competition

 
U16 – All players must be in school year 11 and below in the year of competition 


U18 – All players must be in school year 13 and below in the year of competition


⦁    A maximum of sixteen (16) players per team may be entered by each school


⦁    Teams will consist only of girls

Rules of the Game


The FIH Rules of Hockey shall apply

Format of the Championships


Preliminary rounds of the Championship at each age group - the Schools County Associations will be responsible for the organisation of the Preliminary Rounds in their area


The winners of each age group shall play in the finals


Final round of the Championship at each age group - the hosting region, as decided by rota, will be responsible for the organisation of the finals


Championship rules for the finals at each age group


⦁    The finals shall be played in two pools of four.  Prior to the finals the organising committee will select which teams appear in each pool by means of a draw


⦁    Teams will play all other teams in their pool and the following points will be awarded for each match:


⦁    Three points of a win


⦁    One point for a draw


⦁    In the event of teams finishing with an equal number of points at the end of the pool matches the ranking in the pools shall be decided using the following criteria:


⦁    Goal difference


⦁    Highest number of goals for


⦁    Winner of the match between the two teams


If the scores are still tied, a shoot-out competition will be taken (see separate shoot-out regulations)                    Note: A shoot-out competition will only be necessary if it affects progress to the next round 


⦁    The Winners and Runners-up in the Pools shall play in the semi-finals as follows:
1st in Pool A    v    2nd in Pool B
1st in Pool B    v    2nd in Pool A

The winners of these matches will play in the final 
In the event of a draw at full time in the semi-finals or final a shoot-out competition will be taken (see separate shoot-out regulations)


⦁    All matches shall be 15 minutes each way, with three minutes for half-time


⦁    The first named team to provide the match ball and start with the ball


⦁    In the event of a clash of colours the second named team shall change to an alternate colour


⦁    Each school team must provide a qualified umpire for the pool matches


⦁    The organising committee will provide umpires for the semi-finals and finals

 

General
⦁    Each team MUST play with a fully attired goalkeeper at all times


⦁    All players MUST wear shin pads and should wear gum shields


⦁    It is recommended that players wear face masks when defending penalty corners


⦁    Players should not wear jewellery likely to cause injury to other players


⦁    Players should wear appropriate playing kit


⦁    Teams should provide their own first aid kits and it is the responsibility of the teams participating in the tournament to provide their own first aid to any of their players who need it


⦁    Participating schools must be aware of Hockey Wales Policies and Procedures (including Codes of Conduct, Safeguarding, Disciplinary) which will apply to all matches


⦁    The Competitions TAG shall determine the action to be taken for any matter not specifically covered by these regulations


⦁    Should issues arise on the day, the TD shall determine the action to be taken.  If no TD is appointed, the organiser / such person(s) as the Competitions TAG has delegated to assist with the running of the competition, shall determine the action to be taken
